All Earth Day activities are included with general admission.

Please note: Due to unforeseen circumstances surrounding our butterfly supplier, the butterfly release scheduled for our 2019 Earth Day celebration will not take place. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Butterflies, lady bugs, waste recycling and sustainability will round out the world of Science Museum Oklahoma from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 20 as the museum celebrates Earth Day with a morning and afternoon of special events.

“Earth Day is a reminder of the small actions each of us can take to make big changes for our environment,” said Barry Fox, gardens and grounds manager for SMO.

“Sustainability is an important initiative at SMO, and we’re excited to share our passion for environmental responsibility with guests of all ages – we’ll have something for everyone.”

SMO's Earth Day events include upcycling activities with the SMO Gardens team, a talk on aquaculture, vermiculture and the SMO Gardens’ rabbits at noon, a lady bug release at 1 p.m., a release of approximately 100 butterflies at 2 p.m., as well as activities with the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, Oklahoma Gardeners Association, and Oklahoma Green Schools Program. All activities are included with general admission.

Guests can continue the sustainability conversation at home with a visit to the museum’s Science Shop, which will have a variety of Earth Day-themed items including butterfly, ladybug and ant habitats, live butterfly larvae and birdhouse kits.

Located at 2020 Remington Place in Oklahoma City, Science Museum Oklahoma is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Daily general admission is $15.95 for adults (ages 13 to 64) and $12.95 for children (ages 3 to 12) and seniors (65 and older). Annual memberships begin at $105.
