This is not a mind trick; this is the no-kids-allowed event you’ve been looking for. Science Museum Oklahoma’s “SMO 21: A Galaxy Far, Far Away,” presented by Express Employment International, is set for 6:30-10 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, at the museum located at 2020 Remington Place in Oklahoma City.

The adults-only (21+) night at the museum will explore galactic science with empire builders and the more rebellious types — laser sword battles, testing rebel-like reflexes, learning how it might feel to be frozen in carbonite, special shows in the Kirkpatrick Planetarium, creating robots in the Tinkering Garage, digging through an other-worldly swamp and even encounters with animals not unlike some that could be found in another universe.

“This is our first trip to a galaxy far, far away for SMO 21 — longtime SMO 21 fans weren’t sure we’d ever do it, and I find the lack of faith disturbing,” said Clint Stone, vice president of programs for SMO.

“Whether you always dreamed of being a space cowboy, a rebellious princess, a gambler or a moisture farmer, this evening brings a balance of fun and discovery. When it comes to science there is only do, there is no try.”

The full museum will be open during SMO 21, giving guests the opportunity to explore the museum’s exhibits and galleries. In addition to themed activities and a cash bar with beer, wine and intergalactic cocktails, and the museum’s cantina will be open with numerous entrée and snack options.

Tickets are $21 in advance, $25 on the day-of if not sold out and include all activities and access to the museum’s permanent exhibits. Guests are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance as admission is limited and the event is expected to sell out.

Those purchasing tickets at the door should check SMO’s website for updates regarding ticket availability and arrive no later than 7:30 p.m. There will be no ticket sales after 7:30 p.m. and no outside food or beverage is permitted.

SMO 21, the museum’s adults-only, after-hours program for ages 21 and up, is a chance for adults to explore SMO without children in tow. Future SMO 21s — with themes to be announced — are set for April, June, August and October.
